Member Update - Federal Budget
The Federal Government tabled its 2012 budget on March 29. There were no changes to existing regulations and expenditure limits for relocation allowances and the reimbursement of moving allowances. CERC had made several proposals to modernize those regulations, which were not adopted.
There were however some important announcements in the budget with regard to economic immigration and the temporary foreign worker programs that will be of significant interest to employers who use those programs.
Feb 14 - In recent correspondence to the Minister of Finance Jim Flaherty, the Canadian Employee Relocation Council (CERC) outlined several measures that can improve the treatment and taxation of employee relocation benefits and moving expense reimbursements. Beyond the Border Working Group - Cross Border Mobility
CERC and Worldwide ERC® have established a cross border working group to identify issues surrounding the movement of talent between Canada and the U.S. and to explore solutions. CERC is pleased that over the past several months that working group has been able to draft recommendations to present to both the U.S. and Canadian governments.
